Workshops & Groups

The Women's Center offers workshops and groups on a variety of topics.

 

Reading Groups

The Women's Center offers one monthly reading and discussion group:

Feminist Reading and Discussion Group
Fourth Thursdays of every month, 7:00-8:30 pm

Please note: Starting in February 2008, the time of the Feminist Reading Group will change to 6:30-8:00 pm.

Join this ongoing group for women that focuses on readings with a multicultural feminist perspective. Call Abbie Tom at 933-8972 for more information. Free. No pre-registration required; drop-ins welcome.

 

Separation and Divorce Support Groups

Separation and Divorce groups will be offered in the spring. More information will be provided as details become available. Please email us for more information about upcoming groups.

Support Group Guidelines: Potential group members must meet or speak on the phone with facilitators prior to the group for a screening interview to determine if the group is an appropriate match and to answer questions. Attendance at the first session of support groups is required and is essential to the process of trust-building.

Homeownership Classes

The Homebuyer Education Program is designed to support and educate homebuyers about the process and responsibilities involved in purchasing, owning, and maintaining a home. The Women's Center has combined efforts with other community organizations in order to better serve those interested in first-time homebuyer's classes. Legal Clinics

A variety of free legal clinics are offered throughout the year to arm you with information and help you deal with your legal issues. The Family Law Series being held this spring includes the following clinics:

  • Contemplating Separation and Divorce - April 10, 2008
  • Pro-Se (Do-It-Yourself) Divorce - April 10, 2008
  • Child Custody and Child Support in NC - April 24, 2008
  • Property Division in NC - May 1, 2008
  • Spousal Support in NC - May 8, 2008

Important Registration Information

For events that require pre-registration, please register at least one week prior to the workshop's or group's start date to ensure that there is still space available. Programs are open to women and men unless otherwise noted.

Pre-payment is required for all fee-for-service workshops. Full and partial scholarships are available. Please call 919-968-4610 for a scholarship application.
