Legal Services

The following legal services are available through The Women's Center:

Legal Information Service (LIS)

The Women's Center's Legal Information Service (LIS) provides the opportunity to speak with a volunteer attorney by phone for 15 minutes to discuss legal issues including divorce, child custody, consumer law, tenants' rights, etc. This service may help you clarify your legal issue(s). Attorneys offer information only, not advice, consultation, or representation. Call The Women's Center at 919-968-4610 to schedule a free evening appointment. This service is only available for residents of North Carolina.

The Community Legal Project (CLP)

UNC law students are available for 30-minute in-person appointments to discuss your legal questions. After your initial appointment, the law student researches your issue, composes a memo with relevant information, and meets with you for a follow-up consultation. The law student consults with an attorney before presenting information to you. This service may help you clarify your legal issue(s). Law students offer information only, not advice, consultation, or representation. Call The Women's Center at 919-968-4610 to schedule a free evening appointment.
