Homeownership Programs

The following homeownership programs are offered by The Women's Center:

IDA Homeownership Program

Want to purchase your first home? Think that it will never happen because your income is too low, you don't know where to start, or you can't save enough money for a down payment? Through the IDA Program, The Women's Center helps people like you achieve their dream of homeownership. You may be eligible to participate.

Please note: Enrollment Deadline is April 30, 2008. Homes must be purchased by December 2008 to receive the match.

How it works:
--After you open an IDA savings account at a local bank, you participate in homebuyer and financial literacy classes so that you have the knowledge you need to buy your first home.
--You commit to saving $1,000.
--When you find a home to buy in Orange County, we'll match your savings up to $2,000 - giving you a total of at least $3,000 to put towards your first home!

Click here for information about eligibility. If you think you qualify and if you could use an extra $2,000 towards the purchase of your first home in Orange County, the IDA Homeownership Program may be for you! We are currently recruiting participants. Please contact The Women's Center at 919-968-4610 or email the Director of Financial Programs for more information. HOMEBUYER CLASSES

Participants in the program will learn about the various aspects of homebuying, including: the application process, working with a lender, working with a realtor, mortgage terms, the inspection process, foreclosure prevention and the closing process.

Attending classes and acquiring certification for 8 hours of homebuyer education is a requirement of affordable homeownership programs, as well as many loan packages for first-time homebuyers. The Women's Center has combined efforts with other community organizations in order to better serve people interested in first-time homebuyer's classes.
