Homeownership Program
The following homeownership programs are available through The Women's Center:
Orange County Individual Development Account (IDA) Program
Want to purchase your first home? Think that it will never happen because your income is too low, you don't know where to start, or you can't save enough money for a down payment? Through the IDA Program, The Women's Center helps people like you achieve their dream of homeownership. You may be eligible to participate.
Please note: Enrollment Deadline is April 30, 2008. Homes must be purchased by December 2008 to receive the match.
How it works:
- After you open an IDA savings account at a local bank, you’ll participate in homebuyer and financial literacy classes so that you have the knowledge you need to buy your first home.
- You commit to saving $1,000.
- When you find a home to buy, we'll match your savings up to $2,000 - giving you a total of at least $3,000 to put towards your first home!
If you think you qualify based on the information from the eligibility form, and if you could use an extra $2,000 towards the purchase of your first home, the IDA Homeownership Program may be for you! New participants are currently being accepted; the enrollment Deadline is April 30, 2008. Please contact the program director by email or at 919-968-4610.

The Homebuyer Education Program is designed to support and educate homebuyers about the process and responsibilities involved in purchasing, owning and maintaining a home. Attending classes and acquiring certification for 8 hours of homebuyer education is a requirement of affordable homeownership programs, as well as many loan packages for first-time homebuyers. The Women's Center has combined efforts with other community organizations in order to better serve people interested in first-time homebuyer's classes.
