About the Show
The mission of The Women's Center is to promote the individual and collective empowerment of the diverse community of women and girls in the Triangle. The art show helps women reach this mission. Compared to their male counterparts, female artists generally remain underrepresented in galleries, museums and shows. Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands provides a high-profile exhibition opportunity for women artists. The Women's Center uses the show to build relationships with regional and national art traders and draw attention to the talent and diversity of North Carolina women artists.
The 2006 "Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands" promises an outstanding line up of talented NC women artists. In our 2005 show, jurors selected 157 pieces out of 472 entries, with artists representing an array of media including painting, photography, stoneware, jewelry, and charcoal to name but a few. Forty percent of art sales and all net proceeds from event sales benefit The Women's Center.
Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands is the Center's primary fundraising activity and benefits the 5,000 women served by The Women's Center each year, supporting programs and services, such as legal services, youth empowerment and media literacy programs, an information and referral service, financial and career counseling, and support groups and workshops.
