Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue to be Honorary Chair for The Women's Center's 19th Annual Art Show Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands

CHAPEL HILL--The Women's Center announces Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue as the honorary chair for the 19th annual art show Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands. She will be speaking at the art show luncheon on February 28th at the Sheraton Chapel Hill Hotel.

"The art show is such a wonderful opportunity for North Carolina women to showcase their talents while benefiting the vital work The Women's Center provides in central North Carolina," stated Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue.

Currently, Perdue is the second highest elected official in our state. Previously, she served five terms in the Senate and two terms in the state House of Representatives. Perdue has helped shape North Carolina's agenda on educational excellence, affordable housing, accessible healthcare, and sustainable economic prosperity. She has been consistently ranked one of the most effective members of the North Carolina General Assembly and gained reputation for being one of the legislature's hardest workers.

"We are extremely pleased to have Lieutenant Governor Beverly Perdue as this year's honorary chair," stated Elizabeth Preddy, co-chair of the art show at The Women's Center. "We know that she will be an inspiration to those attending the luncheon."

The purpose of Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands is to give women the opportunity to display their artistic talents since they are underrepresented in galleries, museums and shows compared to their male counterparts. One-third of the proceeds of each art sale, as well as the proceeds from the events surrounding the art show, will benefit The Women's Center.

Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands will take place February 21-28, 2003, at the Sheraton Chapel Hill Hotel. Doors will open for the Preview Party and Silent Auction on Friday, February 21, at 7:30 p.m. On Friday, February 28, the luncheon and craft sale will take place from 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

The mission of The Women's Center is to support Triangle area women in achieving their personal and professional goals through information, education, referral and support services.
