About the Show

Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands is the largest juried art show of its kind in the Southeast. Started by a small group of women artists and patrons of the arts in Chapel Hill, the show has a rich legacy. For almost two decades, Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands, has showcased top-quality work by leading female artists in support of The Women's Center.

Part of the mission of The Women's Center is to support Triangle area women in achieving their personal and professional goals and the art show is a perfect example of that. Compared to their male counterparts, female artists generally remain underrepresented in galleries, museums and shows. Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands provides a high-profile exhibition opportunity for women artists. The Women's Center uses the show to build relationships with regional and national art traders and draw attention to the talent and diversity of North Carolina women artists.

Through Women's Eyes, By Women's Hands is the Center's primary fundraising activity, resulting in almost $400,000 in funds raised since 1993. These funds benefit the more than 6,200 women served by The Women's Center each year, supporting programs and services, such as legal and shared housing information, a youth empowerment program, and financial and career counseling.
